Myths about prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is a disease that unfortunately, many men suffer from. There are countless myths surrounding prostate cancer, most of which are complete inaccurate. If you believe that you may have prostate cancer consult your doctor immediately, and if not, be sure to have regular prostate exams as part of your wellness routine.

Prostate cancer is often thought of as a disease that only old men get. This isn’t true though. Although the majority of suffers are over the age of 65, it’s not highly uncommon that men under 40 could develop the disease as well. It’s also crucially important that you get regular prostate exams, just because you don’t have symptoms doesn’t mean that you don’t have prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is actually one of the most common cancers that appears without any signs or symptoms, and can only be detected by a routine check-up.

Another common myth is that prostate cancer is a slow cancer, so you don’t really have to be concerned with it. This is only true sometimes. There are upwards of 25 different types of prostate cancer, some more aggressive than others. If you are diagnosed, it’s important that you take the steps suggested by your doctor to combat the cancer. As with any other cancer, the longer you wait, the harder it is to cure.

These and more myths surround prostate cancer. Whether or not you believe you have this disease, it is always a smart idea to stay informed, and have regular checkups as you age. It’s always better to be cautious when dealing with your health, and separate common myths, from scientific fact.
